Komen Charlotte Awards Record-Breaking $1.4 Million in Community Health Grants |

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - For the period of April 1, 2012, through March 31, 2013, Komen Charlotte is awarding $1.4 million for local programs that provide screening, education and treatment ton women with limited resources in its nine-county service area. An independent Grant Review Panel recommended projects based on breast health needsidentified in the Affiliate’s 2011 Community Profile.

CABARRUS COUNTY

 CABARRUS HEALTH ALLIANCE provides outreach, education and screening services targeting low-incomeminority women.CAROLINAS MEDICAL CENTER-NORTHEAST provides mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, and lymphedemaservices to uninsured and underinsured women in Cabarrus, Rowan, Stanly, and Iredell counties. GASTON COUNTY CAROMONT CANCER CENTER AT GASTON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL provides breast cancer screening, diagnosticservices, and education for the underserved in the community.CANCER SERVICES OF GASTON COUNTY provides screening to low-income minority populations, breast healtheducation programs, and assistance with breast cancer-related medical items.GASTON COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT provides clinical examinations, mammograms, diagnostic exams,education, support, and guidance to low-income and uninsured women. IREDELL COUNTY CHESTNUT GROVE COMMUNITY CENTER provides screening and disgnostic mammograms for underservedand/or disadvantaged women in Iredell County. LINCOLN COUNTY LINCOLN COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT provides screening and diagnostic mammograms as well as breasthealth education to uninsured and underinsured women in Lincoln County. MECKLENBURG COUNTY CAROLINAS REHABILITATION – MAIN provides lymphedema treatment and compression bandages andgarments for women who are unable to afford them.CAROLINAS REHABILITATION – PINEVILLE provides compression supplies and garments for patients who donot have insurance coverage for these items.CHARLOTTE COMMUNITY HEALTH CLINIC, INC. provides mammograms, clinical breast exams and breasthealth education to low-income, uninsured working women.C.W. WILLIAMS COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER, INC. provides education, breast screening exams, diagnosticexams and biopsies to uninsured and the medically underserved.GIRL SCOUTS HORNETS’ NEST COUNCIL provides breast health and breast cancer awareness to girls, theirfamilies, troop leaders and mentors, with a focus on girls living in at-risk environments, rural communities andunderserved or emerging populations.LAKE NORMAN COMMUNITY HEALTH CLINIC provides breast cancer education, screening, and diagnosticservices to uninsured individuals in the Lake Norman area.MECKLENBURG COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT provides breast health education, mammograms anddiagnostic procedures to low-income minority women in Mecklenburg County.PRESBYTERIAN BUDDY KEMP CANCER SUPPORT CENTER provides financial assistance for prescription and nonprescriptionmedical expenses to current breast cancer patients.PRESBYTERIAN HUNTERSVILLE provides screening and education to uninsured women, as well as diagnosticmammograms and ultrasound-guided biopsies.PRESBYTERIAN CANCER CENTER MAIN provides screening and diagnostic mammograms as well as breasthealth education to uninsured and underinsured women in the community.PRESBYTERIAN MATTHEWS provides screening mammograms, diagnostics and biopsies to uninsured womenin the greater Matthews area including Mecklenburg and Union counties.PRESBYTERIAN REHAB provides lymphedema treatment services and compression garments to breast cancersurvivors, as well as educational opportunities for survivors in rural communities to learn about follow-upcare, physical activity, nutrition, and complementary therapies. ROWAN COUNTY KANNAPOLIS CHURCH OF GOD provides screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms and ultrasoundsto uninsured and underinsured Rowan County women.ROWAN REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER provides education, mammograms, ultrasound, MRI, and biopsy to lowincome,uninsured women. STANLY COUNTY STANLY COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT provides screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms orultrasounds, and biopsies for uninsured/underinsured residents of Stanly County.STANLY REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER provides education, screening and diagnostic mammograms,ultrasounds, and biopsies to underinsured/uninsured women in Stanly County.STANLY REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER: EDEMA MANAGEMENT CENTER provides lymphedema patients witheducational resources as well as compression products that are not covered by insurance. UNION COUNTY UNION COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT provides screening mammograms and diagnostic services, as well aseducation and assistance to underinsured women residing in Union County. YORK COUNTY CATAWBA SERVICE UNIT provides mammograms for Native American women on the Catawba Reservation,specifically targeting those who cannot afford a mammogram.THE BREAST SCREENING SOURCE OF YORK COUNTY provides breast health education and screeningmammograms to low-income uninsured women in York County.
