Revolution Oil becomes Pro Cup Series title sponsor

Officials with the Championship Auto Racing Series (CARS) announced Wednesday afternoon that Revolution Oil has agreed to become the title sponsor of the CARS Pro Cup Series, effective immediately.

The CARS Pro Cup Series will now be known as the Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series. The title sponsorship agreement runs through the 2013 racing season.

“The addition of Revolution Oil as title sponsor of the Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series is a major step for us,” said Jack McNelly, president of the Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series. “We couldn’t be happier to have them on board and we look forward to a fantastic relationship going forward.”

The difficult state of the economy has taken its toll on the motorsports industry in recent years, but this sponsorship announcement is considered a good sign of things to come.

“The racing industry has been struggling the last few years, that’s for sure,” McNelly said.

Dodge leaving NASCAR after this season; France and fans react

CONCORD - It's one of the most iconic names in NASCAR, and after this year, it's gone. Dodge announced Tuesday afternoon that it would not be back to race once the final checkered flag falls this season.

"We've spent an intense five months working to identify and evaluate all options for our future involvement in NASCAR," said Ralph Gilles, head of Street and Racing Technology (SRT) for Chrysler. "A number of opportunities emerged, and our team worked diligently to put a structure together to fit our overall business and competitive objectives. While we have been pleased and enthused with the amount of interest from teams and sponsors over that time, in the end, we simply couldn't develop the right structure."

Gilles said they everyone from fans to factory workers begged Dodge officials to stay in NASCAR, but he said today that without a deal to field cars for one of the sport's top teams, they just wouldn't do it.
