KANNAPOLIS - Kannapolis Police are looking for three men after a teen was shot and killed on Snow Street Monday afternoon.

KPD received a service call of a man who had been shot in the neck.  The man, now identified as Daniel Cooper, 17, of Florida Avenue in Kannapolis, was located in a car in the 300 block of West 22d Street.  Cooper was transported to CMC / Northeast Medical Center by Rowan County EMS with life threatening injuries and died a short time later.

WBTV has learned that Kannapolis Police have obtained a murder warrant for Darius Jamal Smotherson in connection with the shooting.  

Following the shooting, Cooper was able to tell police that the actual assault occurred in the 400 block of Snow Street, Kannapolis, and officers drove to the West 22nd Street location after the shooting. 

The KPD Felony Investigation Unit continues to work an open and still active investigation.  They are completing evidence collection and interviewing witnesses.  Information released regarding the investigation will be extremely limited at this particular time.

The suspects, all black men, were described as follows:

Suspect # 1 Early to Mid 20’s, approximately 6 ft tall, approximately 130 to 150 pounds, he was wearing a baggy red t-shirt was some type of black design on it and dark jean shorts.  His hair was in rows tight to his head and did not extend down below his neck.

Suspect #2 Early to Mid 20’s, approximately 130 to 150 pounds, approximately 6 ft tall, was wearing a white t-shirt with a design on it, he had a bald head and a short goatee.

Suspect #3 Early to Mid 20’s, approximately 6 ft tall, approximately 130 to 150 pounds, unknown clothing description
