KANNAPOLIS - On June 1 at approximately 11:00pm, Kannapolis Police Officers responded to 940 Airline Drive after receiving a 911 call about a disturbance. Additional information indicated that a robbery may have occurred and two suspects, possibly Hispanic males had run from the scene on foot.
When officers arrived on the scene they found the victim sitting in his living room. The victim had been severely beaten with numerous lacerations to his head.
The victim reported that while he was asleep, two unknown males entered his home wearing all black and ski masks. He stated both suspects were armed with firearms and began assaulting him by striking him in the head. The suspects then took the victim’s cell phone and fled the residence. No other items were reported missing from the home.
As additional officers began canvassing the area in an attempt to locate the suspects, a patrol officer observed a 2004 Buick operating without headlights on Bishop Lane near Concord Lake Road.
The officer stopped the vehicle and discovered evidence inside the vehicle connecting the two occupants to the crime. The vehicle was occupied by Juan Amaya Gonzales and Jose Daniel Soto both of Kannapolis, NC. Both subjects were arrested for the above listed offenses and transported to the Kannapolis Police Department for processing.
Both subjects were placed in the Cabarrus County Jail under a $300,000 bond.
Because the investigation is still ongoing, the Kannapolis Police Department is not releasing the name of the victim at this time. For additional information or questions, you can either contact me by replying to this email or 704-920-4023.
